Vitamins & Nutritional Supplements

Vitamins are substances that your body needs to grow and develop normally. There are 13 vitamins your body needs. They are vitamins A, C, D, E, K and the B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12 and folate). You can usually get all your vitamins from the foods you eat. Your body can also make vitamins D and K. People who eat a vegetarian diet may need to take a vitamin B12 supplement.


A  supplement product that contains vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, enzymes, and/or other ingredients intended to supplement the diet. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has special labeling requirements for dietary supplements and treats them as foods, not drugs. must meet all of the following conditions:

    * It is a product (other than tobacco) that is intended to supplement the diet and that contains one or more of
       the following: vitamins, minerals, *herbs or otherbotanicals, amino acids, or any combination of the above

    * It is intended to be taken in tablet, capsule, powder, softgel, gelcap, or liquid form.
    * It is not represented for use as a conventional food or as a sole item of a meal or the diet.
    * It is labeled as being a dietary supplement.
